Tonight was my first chance to visit Seattle’s old-time community. This offered the opportunity to return to Conor Byrne, the first place I played oldtime music with a group back in 2007. It’s surprising how little the place has changed. It’s surprising how little the people have changed. It’s a shame that the jam is always on a weeknight and there is no real chance to drink Guinness and stay up late with the regulars. Still, jams rarely need libations and it’s good to know that the institution still exists.
It’s very hard to find things that you can return to six years later and find exactly the way you left them. Things move fast in the modern world, especially for people like myself who move from city to city. It’s rare to return to a place and feel like you are returning home.
